HISTORY
Nansi is the second youngest in a family of six from the Kilian city Tiranoe. Her parents operate a store together, her father working as a shoemaker, while her mother is a seamstress. The business is fairly successful and the family always lived a very comfortable life. All the children also benefited from the education system unique to Kilian cities.
By Kilian standards, Nansi's life was normal, allowing her to grow up well and happy, if a bit more outgoing than was generally expected. She always seemed to have a smile on her face and made friends easily. But for years, there was no friend quite as dear to her as Jesse was.
Jesse's father owned a tavern that was located just down the street from the shop owned by Nansi's parents. The girls met when they were toddlers and were near inseparable for many years. They always promised each other to be best friends forever.
Things changed when the girls were both ten: Jesse's mother had decided that she'd had enough of the tavern life her husband led and convinced him that they should and help with her family's farm. The family's move was sudden and both girls were devastated at the thought of being separated. At their tearful farewell, they promised to write to each other everyday and to keep their friendship alive. The minute her friend was out of sight, Nansi sat down and began her first letter.
Jesse never wrote back.
It took many months and many letters later before Nansi accepted that she wasn't going to get a reply. She never knew the reason why, though she liked to imagine that the letters just got lost, rather than having been ignored. She doubted this though and had many a moment of staring into fires, imagining her letters in them, burning up while Jesse laughed at her. She never told anyone this, but she has always had a strong aversion to fire because of it.
Life went on, despite heartache, and Nansi made new friends. The most important of these was Chloe, her best friend at age 13. It was then that Nansi first made an important realization about herself: she realized that she was attracted to other girls. She never talked to anyone about this, as in Kilia such matters are incredibly private. However she soon developed feelings for Chloe and one day got the courage up to kiss her.
After this, Chloe never spoke to her again. Once again, Nansi was heartbroken and felt just as betrayed as she had when Jesse left, perhaps more so because of her romantic attachment. Once again, she kept this pain to herself and worked to get past it, though the experience changed her forever.
She met Hannah the next year: she had never known anyone like her. Hannah was brilliant and incredibly talented, something Nansi had never been: her intelligence and magical ability was average at best. Hannah had a darker side to her as well, which Nansi could sense. However, when they were together, everything seemed so wonderful. Gradually, Nansi found herself with feelings for her new friend. These feelings were much stronger than any she had felt for Chloe and thus, despite strong misgivings and fears, Nansi decided to act on them. To her great delight and relief, Hannah returned the feelings. Soon, Nansi found herself completely in love with her friend and wanted them to spend the rest of their lives together.
Two years later, the relationship has only deepened, in both the area of feelings and where actions are concerned. Nansi still believes that they will be together forever. The idea that this might not be true terrifies her and has led to her becoming rather clingy towards Hannah. While they are still happy together, the relationship is not without its issues, which will one day need to be addressed and worked out if they are to survive as a couple.
PERSONALITY
Nansi is very outgoing, especially compared to most of her countrymen and women. She is friendly, even bubbly at some points, and thus is a hard person to dislike. She is also very caring towards those she loves, especially her family and, of course, Hannah. She likes nothing better than to make any of them smile. She also does enjoy gently teasing people, though she never does this maliciously and stops once they are flustered enough. This teasing is done exclusively to those who are near her age, thus only her siblings and her friends, once again especially Hannah.
However, like any true Kilian, Nansi does have a secretive and private side to her. She doesn't mind teasing Hannah in public, but anything romantic between them is strictly private. It's not that she's embarrassed or ashamed; this is just how she has been taught to behave. She also does hide some of her innermost thoughts, especially connected to Chloe and Jesse. She tries to avoid talking about them and will only do so if someone brings the topic up and even then she will say the least amount that she possibly can without raising suspicions.
Nansi is also deeply afraid that her relationship with Hannah might go the same path as her former friendships. While this fear is one of her secret feelings, it can be seen in how she will often cling to Hannah. This is especially apparent whenever Hannah falls into her more pensive moods. Hannah's insecurities only heighten those that Nansi feels, leading to her almost smothering Hannah with affection and attention.
APPEARANCE
Nansi is a fairly small girl, shorter than average for a Kilian and fairly thin, but because of her fairly high energy level she usually doesn't seem small, or at very least she has a large presence. She has blonde hair that falls to her waist and bright blue eyes. She wears very nice clothing, all made by her mother of course, using the second-best materials that the store offers.
